I have published this walk on VictoriaWalks walkingmaps. It adopts a section of the High Country Rail Trail in Towong Shire. Here is the link: Mitta River to Old Tallangatta walk

I was going to ask you if that first pic was the usual water level. It looks like a flooded area and sounds like a river that sometimes gets too much water? That’s a nice pic. The hill/mountain in the distance reminds me of what the dunes look like here along the western side of Michigan, along Lake Michigan.

The water of the lake is higher than is has been for many years. It varies dramatically according to how many years our droughts and flooding rains last.

It sounds like the trees have gotten used to being submerged for periods of time?

Many of the trees are huge River Red Gums. They like wet feet and live for hundreds of years – a favourite of mine. However, those trees submerged permanently have died since the river was dammed.

River Red Gums is such a perfect name for trees that live hundreds of years. I think humans are a tree’s worst enemy.
